Thiel Architecture + Design is an award-winning multi-disciplinary architecture, interior design, planning, and product design firm with offices in CT and NY. The firm’s work focuses on high-end residential design as well as hospitality, contract, and retail projects. Founder Nancy Thiel and principal Julie Hanselmann Davies honed their craft working with world-renowned architects including Michael Graves, Robert A.M. Stern, David Rockwell, and Annabelle Selldorf. They have worked with both domestic and international clients, and with both small businesses and large marquee names such as Bloomberg, Disney, Equinox, W Hotels, Ritz Carlton, and Cirque du Soleil. Thiel Architecture + Design’s work has been featured in Interior Design, Architect, Cottages and Gardens, and Fast Company magazines. In 2022, the firm received a Connecticut AIA Excellence award for Interior Architecture.

Our design approach focuses on our clients and how to enhance their experience as they move through and interact with objects and their surroundings. Micro and macro, this approach is centered on the user experience. While most of our clients are building in the Greater New York City area - including Westchester County, Fairfield County, Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York, and northern New Jersey - we offer our design services for wherever you wish to build.

Our experienced staff uses their architectural, interior design and industrial design know-how to find the best design solutions. The team has the ability to work across a variety of different project types from residential to hospitality, retail to contract. Our firm is recognized for our dynamic and collaborative process.

Team

Nancy Thiel, founder & principal, is a licensed architect (New York, Connecticut and New Jersey) and an interior designer. A member of the AIA, Nancy holds NCARB certification and is a LEED Accredited Professional. With 35+ years experience working with luminaries in the architecture world, Nancy's extensive portfolio includes single family homes and multi-story residences, hotels, restaurants, fitness clubs, offices, schools and shopping centers. She earned her Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University. Prior to Thiel Architecture + Design, she was a Studio Leader at Rockwell Group.

Julie Hanselmann Davies has worked in architecture and urban design for over 40 years. Prior to joining Thiel Architecture + Design, she was an associate partner at Selldorf Architects and a principal at Eric R. Kuhne & Associates. Julie received her B.A. from Yale University and her M. Arch from Princeton University. She is a lecturer in architectural and landscape design.
